Gutters before winter

Why the autumn clear matters more than any other job on the house, and what we find in them.

A black gutter at the eaves of a slate roof full of wet autumn leaves and moss, water spilling over

Gutters full of leaves overflow down the wall, and a wet wall in winter is how damp gets into a house.

When

Once a year after the leaves have fallen, usually in late November. Twice a year under big trees.

What you can do

From the ground, watch the gutters in heavy rain: water spilling over the front or running down the wall means a blockage or a joint that has dropped.

What we do

We clear every run by hand, flush the downpipes, check the joints and the fall, and send you the photos.
