Chimneys and leadwork

Repointing, flaunching, Code 4 lead

From
How long
Usually two days, with the scaffold

More leaks start round a chimney than anywhere else on a roof. We repoint the stack, renew the flaunching round the pots, and dress new lead into the brickwork: soakers under the slates at the sides, an apron at the front and a back gutter behind.

Questions

Why is my chimney breast damp?

Usually failed flashing or porous brickwork at the top. We can tell you which from the scaffold.

Do you take chimneys down?

Yes, to below the roof line if you no longer use them, with the slates made good.
