New roofs and re-roofing

Natural slate, laid course by course

From
How long
Usually one to two weeks

Most roofs we replace are the original Victorian slate, nailed with iron nails that have rusted through. The slates themselves are often still good. We strip the roof a section at a time, check every rafter, lay a breathable membrane and new battens, then slate it again from the eaves up, mixing your best old slates with reclaimed ones from our yard.

Questions

Can you reuse my old slates?

Often, yes: good slates are dressed and reused on the front, with matching reclaimed or new slate where needed.

Will you strip it all at once?

No. We strip a section at a time and never leave the roof open overnight.
